On Friday 17th June, The Executive Mayor of George, Charles Standers formally opened the first ever George Municipal Youth Summit with the theme of “Youth moving South Africa forward”. “

The city of George maintains its vision of a sustainable city and has made huge strides in partnering with government departments, the business sector , NGO’s and civil society. The youth of South Africa, those aged under 35, constitute 66% of the total population and the p...urpose of this summit was to allow young people to express themselves on those issue that pose challenges and opportunities.

The delegates were divided up into groups to discuss family foundations; education and training opportunities; economic opportunities; identity and belonging (positive influences) and reconnection and strengthening of their resilience. The discussions were documented to be used in the formulation of a Youth development strategy for George Municipality.

“ This is a day for the youth to think critically about their role, their future and ways to eliminate barriers to success and to become a person of value,” said Aldm. Standers.
