George Municipality National Youth Day main celebrations took place on 16 June in Uniondale with approximately 600 young people attending the celebrations.

According to Jonel Kerspuy, Youth Coordinator for George Municipality,  the George Municipality celebrated National Youth Day 2018  in Uniondale, in order to place the focus on the young people in the rural areas. Ward Councillor for Ward 25, Cllr Jarques Esau;  Portfolio Councillor for Community Development, Cllr Sean Snyman and the Deputy Executive Mayor, Cllr Charlotte Clarke attended the event and delivered messages of hope and support to the youth.

Several local artists performed on the day to create a place of positive entertainment for the youth and the day was ended off with rugby and netball games.
