Ward Committee training on its roles and responsibilities

The George Municipality Public Participation department in coordination with the provincial department of local government held refresher training for all Ward Committee members last week. The Ward Committee members were given training on their roles and responsibilities in the committees and meeting procedures. The sessions were held last week at George Civic Centre, Conville, Blanco and Thembalethu Community Halls.

Material covered included the importance of effective communication between the Ward Councillor and the Committee Members and the importance of being apolitical in executing Ward Committee responsibilities.

Also, the importance of operating as a team, regular sector meetings and Ward Committee membership as a voluntary service to the community were discussed.
