Go George Impresses Transport Forum

PRESS RELEASE: Go George Impresses Transport Forum

 

The City of George hosted a meeting of the National Transport Forum (NTF) for the first time last week, treating 25 delegates from all over the country to Garden Route hospitality.

The NTF is a forum instituted by the Department of Transport (DoT) and consists of skilled, experienced members from national, provincial and local government,state-owned enterprises, transport agencies and the South African Local Government Association (Salga). Itspurpose is to assist and guide all levels of government in planning and implementing integrated, sustainable transport projects and programmes.

George Municipality is part of the policy and strategy work stream of the forum, and made a visual presentation of the background and development of the GO GEORGE bus service.   The delegates were treated to a bus ride through town on Wednesday evening, also visiting the new George Transport Hub where they used the opportunity to ask questions about the system and required infrastructure.

Members of the National Transport Forum used the opportunity during a GO GEORGE outing and visit to the transport hub, to ask George Director of Civil Engineering Services, Harold Basson (second from right) about the infrastructure required by a system like GO GEORGE.
