GO GEORGE adapting for more road upgrades

The next phase of road upgrades in George impacting the GO GEORGE bus service will commence on Sunday 9 September 2018. This second phase of construction work in Courtenay Street comprises an asphalt wearing course placed over all four lanes and is expected to be done by the end of September.

Work between the First Street and Courtenay Street intersection and the York Street circle will be done one lane at a time. Affected bus stops will be closed for approximately 2,5 hours while the premix sets and passengers are urged to make use of unaffected stops during this period. To minimise disruption, the left lanes directly adjacent to the sidewalks and along which the bus stops are situated, will be done in one day each on two consecutive Sundays: the southern side (i.e. Lynn Schroeder-Police Station side) gets done first on 9 September, and the northern side (i.e. Mc Donald’s-Outeniqua High School side) on 16 September.

Some intersections in Courtenay Street will be closed while the premix sets, but the two intersections at Cradock/Courtenay and Memorium/Courtenay will stay open for the duration of this phase and will be completed at a later, more convenient time.

Closed bus stops – use Hub

Bus stops in Courtenay Street which will be affected intermittently for periods of more or less two and a half hours at a time are Meade 148 and 149, Wellington 565 and 482, Outeniqua 818, and Memorium 619 and 618. Passengers could make use of the nearest alternative bus stop in case of closure, although the next neighbouring stop might be closed as well at the time. GO GEORGE encourages passengers to give preference to the stops in and around the Transport Hub in Cradock Street to simplify trip planning.

Minimal rerouting

Since the Meade/Courtenay intersection will be closed at times throughout the construction period, Route 24 CBD-Loerie Park-GR Mall will not travel via Meade Street as usual but will after departing from the Transport Hub, continue along Cradock Street, turning right into Courtenay Street at the intersection, and will operate as normal from the remainder of the route. This arrangement will apply for the duration of this phase.

Route 56 Denneoord-CBD will have to revert back to its normal route along Caledon Street during the works along the northern side of Courtenay Street (scheduled for Sunday 16 September) when Symonds Lane is inaccessible.

Other routes affected by the construction work, requiring passengers to use alternative bus stops from time to time and which may be subject to delays, are all the routes into town from Pacaltsdorp (Routes 1A, 1B, 60 and 60A), Rosemoor (Routes 53 and 53B), the City Loop (Routes 13F and 13R), the Garden Route Mall (Route 7), and the Industrial Loop (Routes 9F and 9R).

GO GEORGE apologises for the inconvenience and appeals to road users to be patient and exercise caution near roadworks and bus stops.

Geslote bushaltes – gebruik vervoerkern
