George Old Car Show Celebrates 21st Anniversary

George – The George Old Car Show, driven by Oakhurst Insurance Company Limited, celebrates its 21st year of existence on 11 and 12 February 2017.

“This annual event of the Southern Cape Old Car Club (SCOCC), will celebrate the show2’s 21 years of existence with an exhibition of more than 1 000 vehicles,” said Phillip Rosser, chair of the committee organising the 2017 Show. It is expected that the 2016 record number of 12 000 visitors will be exceeded.

The extended Themalethu-Pacaltsdorp Drive-Thru was announced during the launch of the George Old Car Show, driven by Oakhurst Insurance Company Limited, at the Protea Hotel by Marriot King George in November last year.

This Drive-Thru on Sunday 5 February will definitely be one of the highlights of the George Old Car Show. Due to the popularity of the first drive through in 2016, it was decided to repeat it this year.

“The Drive-Thru is almost like a mobile billboard advertising the show in these areas where residents don’t traditionally attend the Show. The aim is to create awareness of he culture of old cars and the importance of conserving it for posterity.”

About six old cars, accompanied by the Southern Cape Old Car Club’s vintage fire-engine will drive through these two areas, while Herman Ungerer, the Club’s announcer, will tell residents more about the cars and the show in their own languages of Xhosa, English and Afrikaans

This fire-engine, which dates from 1962, which was used in Sedgefield, was donated to the Club a couple of years ago by the Knysna Municipality.

The Drive-Thru will take place under the supervision of George Traffic, and commences at 14:00. The vehicles will drive slowly through the areas to allow residents a closer look at the vehicles that Ungerer is telling them about in their own language.

The Municipality values this type of outreach to the different communities. “It is important to the Municipality that all residents form part of events like these, and the Thembalethu-Pacaltsdorp Drive-Thru is our way of involving all residents. We invite everybody to join this major event,” said Rosser.

The George Old Car Show, driven by Oakhurst Insurance Company Limited, takes place at the PW Botha College in York Street, George. Besides the SAB Beer Tent, managed by George Rotary, a number of stalls will offer food, soft drinks, and a variety of merchandise for sale. At a minimal fee young children may be left to play under supervision in a safe area. Parking is available on the school premises.

George Oumotorskou vier 21 jaar
