Excellent Service Delivery

The Electro-Technical department for George Municipality recently faced severe storm conditions throughout George and surrounding areas. Kraaibosch, Wilderness Heights and Hoekwil all experienced power outages due to the strong winds and trees which had fallen on lines. Heavy winds caused high voltage lines to clash tripping the 66kV circuit breaker which services Heatherpark and Blanco. The 11kV breaker at SS Lawaaikamp and SS Afrika both tripped and impacted on large areas of Thembalethu.

Apart from the high voltage damage, the Emergency services call centre was flooded with calls reporting low voltage complaints due to the storm. Over the three day period 117 complaints were attended to. This meant that the Electro-Technical department staff put in a huge volume of overtime and in many cases worked throughout the night to rectify the power to George.

 

Executive Mayor, Charles Standers expressed his gratitude for the excellent service delivery provided by this department and praised the dedication and willingness of the staff who were all called in to assist the teams on duty.

Trevor Botha, Municipal Manager also expressed his gratitude towards the staff for their diligence and loyalty having to work under tough conditions for long hours.

Kevin Grunewald, Director for Electro-Technical thanked  the public of George for understanding the challenges faced by the department in light of the severe weather and for their patience during the outages.
