CANSA Relay for Life is part of an international movement that unites cancer survivors and the communities who care about them. It offers everyone in the community, both young and old, the opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer and to honour those who have been touched by cancer. George Municipality employees have been actively involved in supporting this initiative since 2008. The Relay for Life initiative took place on 25 and 26 March 2017 at Carpe Diem School grounds. George Municipality entered two teams and the entry fees were sponsored by the Executive Mayor, Aldm Melvin Naik. Each Directorate made contributions to assist with the purchasing of food that was prepared and sold at the function. The money that was accumulated throughout the evening was an amount of R12000.00 and it was handed over to Cansa. Many thanks to the Executive Mayor and Council and the Management of George Municipality for their support and the employees who participated and made the success possible. We would also like to thank Food Lovers Market, Mr Meat, Sprint Packaging, Grocery Express and De Dekke Spar Pacaltsdorp for their sponsorships and assistance.
