2018 Junior City Council holds their first meeting

The 2018 George Municipality Junior City Council (JCC) held its first meeting last week (29 January 2018).

The JCC is a non-profit community initiative in which high school learners from different local schools work together with the aim of uniting the youth and benefiting the community of George. The GJCC plans and executes several events for the interaction of the city’s youth, and projects with emphasis on community-service.

Councillor Elizabeth Stroebel and municipality youth development coordinator Jonel Kerspuy welcomed the newly elected council, shared ideas and discussed the municipality’s community projects in which they hoped the JCC would participate. The junior council will also have their own projects, which they will bring to the table at their next meeting.

Five local secondary schools currently participate in the JCC, with the hope that others will join in future.
